Departments & Programs

Our Departments and Programs are carefully structured to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in agriculture and animal science. Each department is staffed with qualified lecturers and equipped with modern facilities to ensure effective teaching, research, and hands-on training.

DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL HEALTH TECHNOLOGY

The Department of Animal Health Technology runs two different programmes now:

1. HND in Animal Health Technology
2. ND in Animal Health and Production Technology

The objectives of establishing these programmes were to provide training for the middle level manpower and to encourage young Nigerians to take the Veterinary Para Profession as a career.
The Department, in collaborative with International organistions such as the ICRC and the FAO, has trained different cadres of personnel in specialized fields of Animal Health and Entrepreneurship.

DEPARTMENT OF PASTURE AND RANGE MANAGEMENT

The Higher Diploma in Pasture and Range Management in Nigeria focuses on the scientific and practical aspects of managing grazing lands and pasture for sustainable livestock production. Here’s a summarized overview of what this course typically encompasses:

Objectives
1. Sustainable Land Use: To equip students with knowledge on sustainable practices for managing pastures and rangelands, ensuring longevity and productivity.
2. Enhancing Livestock Production: To improve the productivity of livestock through better pasture management.
3. Environmental Conservation: To promote ecological balance and the conservation of natural resources within grazing systems.

DEPARTMENT OF FISHERIES TECHNOLOGY

The objective of Fisheries Technology programme is to develop the professional capacity and capability students, equipping them for self-employment and wealth generation by enabling them to explore and effectively transform fisheries resources in their environment into high quality products for man use after generation.

DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY

To develop skilled manpower capable of managing, operating, and improving animal production systems and to promote sustainable livestock production through environmentally, friendly, and economically viable practices To apply scientific and technical principles in animal breeding, nutrition, health, and general management

DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY

Brief History of the SLT Program The Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) program at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Mando Road, Kaduna, was introduced in 2022 as part of the institution’s strategic expansion under the Division of Agricultural Colleges (DAC), Ahmadu Bello University. Recognizing the vital role of laboratory science in supporting agriculture, healthcare, and industrial development, the program was established to provide specialized training in laboratory-based sciences. Since its establishment, the SLT program has grown steadily in capacity and relevance, producing graduates who contribute meaningfully to scientific research, education, and technology-driven sectors.

Objectives
The main objectives of the SLT program include:
1. To train competent and skilled laboratory technologists capable of supporting scientific and technical operations in various fields.
2. To provide students with sound theoretical and practical knowledge in core areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, and microbiology.
3. To develop students’ abilities in scientific analysis, research, and laboratory management.
4. To contribute to national development by producing professionals for academic institutions, research organizations, health laboratories, and agro-allied industries.
